Explore the foundations of justice and legal reasoning with our A Level Law course.�Law is a stimulating, fascinating subject and plays a vital role in society. The law helps define a society�s values and also provides a means to solve problems and disputes without resorting to violence.�This course provides a thorough and fascinating insight into several critical areas of UK law.�Through the study of legal concepts such as justice, rights, and responsibility, students develop a deep understanding of the ethical dimensions of law and its impact on individuals and communities.

You will learn all about different crimes ranging from assault through to murder and the criminal justice system that oversees your safety and the punishment of offenders. It is also important to understand how laws are made, how your rights are protected and the way in which our constitution ensures an equal distribution of power. Such issues form a key part of the English Legal System and the Nature of Law unit and will underpin all of the substantive law units. Had an accident in the last three years? You will learn about Tort Law and its impact on your health and safety, both at home and at work. Ever bought goods online that don't work or don't match their description? That will be a breach of contract which you will learn about during Contract Law. You will be encouraged to draw on your own experiences throughout in order to look at the world and analyse current affairs within a legal framework. Much of the subject matter is approached through class discussion, the use of video material, internet activities, textbooks and reference to topical events. You will be given a course handbook that contains information, activities and homework tasks to be completed.�The Law department is a very innovative department and makes comprehensive use of the college Virtual Learning Environment (I-Site). All materials including online textbooks, online law journals, twitter, revision booklets and MP3 revision files can be accessed by all learners via the internet.�

Assessment is comprised of three examinations at the end of two years' study. Progression to year two will be dependent on successful completion of year one Progression Exams as well as your Key Assessment profile. Paper 1:�The Nature of Law and the English Legal System - Criminal Law. You will study the underlying nature of law and its role in society including the various mechanisms used to create law, the roles of the courts in enforcing/applying law and the work of personnel in administering justice. You will study criminal law from the viewpoint of a range of criminal offences with an emphasis on the application of your knowledge using fictitious scenarios.Paper 2:�The Nature of Law and the English Legal System - Tort Law. You will study the underlying nature of law and its role in society including the various mechanisms used to create law, the roles of courts in enforcing/applying law and the work of personnel in administering justice. You will study civil law from the viewpoint of a range of torts (civil wrongs) with an emphasis on the application of your knowledge using fictitious scenarios.Paper 3:�Contract Law. You will examine the essential requirement for creating legal relations. You will consider offer and acceptance, considerations and intentions when creating a legal agreement. The course will outline the possible defence and remedies available to all, including the impact these have on defendants and claimants.

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 5 or above including maths and English Language, in subjects relevant to your A Level or A+ Programme subject choices

You will gain nationally recognised qualifications accepted by employers and as an entry requirement in Higher Education. A Level Law is well regarded in banking, the Civil Service, Local Government and industry. Besides leading to a career in the legal profession, it can help to develop a career in marketing, personnel and retail management.
