A career in the automotive sector could span anything from being a roadside technician to HGV mechanic or body work expert and you�ll get the hands-on skills needed to find yourself in the fast-lane to success.
Taught in our �23million Skills and Innovation Centre, equipped with leading edge technology and state-of-the-art equipment for engineering and motor vehicle facilities, you will study 18 subjects to give you the grounding in the basics of Engineering, with specialist knowledge in Motorsports Engineering Technology.
This technical course will cover a broad range of Engineering disciplines including Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, CAD, Vehicle Suspension, Steering and Braking systems, Hybrid and Electric Vehicle systems, Vehicle Science and mathematics and Electrical and Electronic systems for Vehicle technology.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will complete a range of projects, assignments, presentations and practical activities. These will be assessed throughout the course.
Entry requirements
As a condition of being offered a place on this course, you would be expected to meet the following entry requirements:1. Submit a school report showing your attendance, behaviour and effort details2. Attend the Department Experience Day in June 20263. Complete a summer assignment which would be set on Experience Day in June 2026.4. You will need to achieve/have achieved five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, this will include Maths and English Language.
Your next steps...
You will be well prepared to progress onto Higher Education to study a degree in Engineering or Automotive Engineering and Motor sports Engineering.
If you prefer to move into Employment, you will be well placed to join an engineering automotive design or manufacturing company, or work in the motor sports and automotive sectors of industry.
