Course Summary

If you�re passionate about dance and want to study a course that will stretch you to your ability whilst providing opportunities to further your understanding of performance then this is the course for you.

Course Details

You�ll experience all styles of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and urban and develop performance styles as you create your own choreography. You will also get the opportunity to dance as part of an ensemble, produce a personal project of your choosing and work collaboratively with other members of your class. The course is based around a mix of both practical and academic activities with students participating in various performances during the academic year, including a flash mob, tea dance, pantomime, variety show, choreography showcase, professional casting day and an end of year full scale musical production. You will take skills based classes such as circus skills and dance performance and explore the performing arts business whilst learning to work and perform in a professional environment. There will also be opportunities to network with local performing arts companies and perform off-site.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course contains a number of mandatory and specialist units, some of which are assessed externally. You will be assessed continually throughout the year as you complete each task within a unit of study. Tasks vary and include practical work, written reports and presentations.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of four or more high grades at GCSE in subjects relevant to the course you�d like to study, including maths and/or English Language at grade 4 or above. Alternatively, you�ll need a Level 2 Diploma with overall Merit in a relevant subject and maths and English at appropriate levels.� You will be invited to interview/audition where you will have the opportunity to meet the department and be shown the outstanding facilities at the Performing Arts Centre. Maths and English Alongside your course you will study Maths and/or English to improve your skills in these vital subjects by attending structured weekly sessions as part of your timetable. Maths and English development is also integrated in practical assignments.

You could either enter the profession on completion of this course, continue your studies at NSCG on a relevant higher education course or apply straight to university to undertake a degree programme.
