Course Summary
The taught elements of the course will take place in college, using a wide range of teaching strategies and technology. You will be expected to complete some hours of directed study working at your own pace guided by the staff. Practical training takes place in a childcare setting where your skills will be assessed.
Course Details
This programme aims to prepare students to work in a supervised role competently, safely and effectively with children. It will prepare you to work in a wide range of settings with different professionals and volunteers, recognising and valuing the importance of all of them in providing a service for children and their families.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The qualification will guide and assess development of knowledge and skills relating to early learning and childcare. It also confirms some aspects of competence, as students will be assessed in the workplace as part of their training.
Entry requirements
4 grade 3's at GCSE ideally English and maths, an appropriate Level 1 qualification.. You will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you. All learners will need to have a clear CRB prior to the start of the course
and wil be required to purchase a uniform.
Equipment required
In this programme, you will learn about children at different stages in their growth and development, as well as how to care for and educate children and how to work with parents, carers and other professionals. The units studied will include: The role of the early years practitioner, creative play, physical care routines and child development. English and Maths will also form an important part of your course, as these are skills we use in all aspects of our study, work and everyday life. You will need a clear DBS check prior to the start of the course and you will be expected to purchase and wear a uniform. You will have to pay for course items such as stationary, books and equipment, whilst some courses have placements or visits, which also may have costs attached. Your next steps...
On completion of the course, you may progress on to level 3 Children's Play Learning and Develpment or an Apprenticeship. Alternatively, you could gain employment as a Nursery Assistant, Pre-School Assistant or other roles within the Early Years sector.
