Level 2 Extended Certificate in Art and Design Skills

You'll learn about different types of roles, the skills needed, and how to find the right opportunity for you.

This exciting course provides an introduction into a creative industries career, catering to both traditional art, craft and design and media. It includes development of drawing, 3D, compositional and presentation skills; which are important to any creative student. The course offers key art skill development through fine art, print, photography, fashion & textiles, graphics and concept art.� A�key area students will develop is their 'create-tec' skills. As well as developing your creative skills, you will be encouraged to learn more about the history of key subject areas and key artists and designers. The course takes one year to complete if you are studying full-time. To achieve the BTEC Certificate you need to obtain a Pass or above in all coursework units to achieve the full qualification. You will continue to improve your Maths and/or English skills in structured lessons alongside your course and Maths and English will also be integrated into your main course programme.

You are continuously assessed throughout the course both formally and informally. Assessments take the form of an individual display of work, which is assessed and evaluated by the staff that teach you. The results are available for discussion and advice about how you might best progress on the course. Your overall qualification is designated a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction.

You will have two GCSEs at grade 4 or above plus a good portfolio. One of the GCSE's must include an art & design based subject. This can include Art & Design, Photography, Graphics, Textiles, Product Design or BTEC Craft. However, if you have a keen interest in the subject and commitment to succeed, your entry requirements will be discussed at your course discussion appointment. If you do not have a minimum GCSE grade 4 for Maths / English you would study these as a part of your timetabled study programme. These structured weekly sessions will help you to improve your skills in these vital subject/s. In addition Maths and English development is integrated into practical course sessions and assignments.

Full, successful completion of the course along with hgh levels of attendance and a grade qualifies you to apply for our Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design. You should also have passed Maths or English at grade 4 or above if retaken with us. The course also enables you to produce a folio of 2D or digital work, to support direct applications to employers.
