Course Summary
Enter the world of science with this work-based laboratory apprenticeship and develop the in-demand skills needed by a wide range of organisations.
Delve into advanced science areas including:chemical, primary and secondary pharmaceutical, biotechnology, formulated products, nuclear companies; and analytical science services, dental laboratories and educational establishments.
Course Details
This apprenticeship focuses on working at the forefront of technology to carry out both routine and one-off laboratory testing (and manufacturing where relevant) and perform a variety of technical support functions across the organisation.�
The role is found in a wide range of organisations, including but not exclusively, chemical, primary and secondary pharmaceutical, biotechnology, formulated products, nuclear companies, and analytical science services, dental laboratories and educational establishments.
During this apprenticeship, you will focus on these areas:
Working safely in a laboratory, maintaining excellent housekeeping whilst following appropriate safety, environment and risk management systems.�Following quality procedures to meet the requirements of quality standards relevant to the workplace.Preparing for laboratory tasks using the appropriate scientific techniques, procedures and methods.Performing laboratory tasks following specified methodologies, such as Standard Operating procedures.��Use of specified instrumentation and laboratory equipment, including calibration where required.Producing reliable, accurate data and keep accurate records of laboratory work undertaken and results.Analyse, interpret and evaluate data and identify results requiring further investigation seeking advice of senior colleagues as appropriate.Communicating scientific information appropriately, including the use of Laboratory Information Management systems, either digital or paper based.Applying scientific techniques for data presentation. e.g. statistics.Recognising problems and apply appropriate scientific methods to identify causes and achieve solutions.�Participating in continuous business performance improvement.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment information
Your progress is monitored and assessments are arranged throughout the course and are flexible in delivery (ie) day release to college, block placements
Assessments Information: includes observations of performance, responses to written/spoken questions, assignments to show your knowledge and understanding and building an e portfolio of evidence to support your knowledge, skills and behaviours.
End Point Assessment comprises of: Knowledge Test, Observation with Questioning and a structured interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
Entry requirements
GCSE 4 or equivalent in Maths and English preferable; discussed on a one to one basis
