Course Summary
This higher apprenticeship is for experienced adult social care practitioners seeking advanced professional development. Apprentices learn about evidence-based practice, research methods, and leadership strategies, preparing them for roles as lead practitioners or consultants in the field.
Course Details
The topics you will cover whilst training include:
Communication skills, Health and Safety, Safeguarding and a choice of optional topics that are designed to enhance your work role and experiences for example Safe Handling of Medications, Support Individuals During Periods of Change and Working in Partnership with Families to Support Individuals to name but a few.
All completed via a level 3 Diploma in health and Social Care.
Typical job roles include:
Lead Adult Care Worker roles within the areas of Residential and Nursing home environments, Domiciliary support, Health and Social Care day centres and some clinical settings at a level of senior care worker. Also, team leader roles supporting administration of medication, undertaking physiological measurements and running small teams, you will be expected to be able to support others on the front line and be instrumental in delegation of work to other care workers. The roles will support services that will provide a high standard of practice and expected behaviours.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Your progress is monitored and assessments are arranged throughout the course Assessment has three aspects which include observation of your actual performance and testing of your knowledge and understanding and assessment of behaviours identified in the standard.
A range of methods will be used including observations, professional discussions, written and oral questioning and assignments.
If you do not hold a suitable maths, English or IT qualification you will need to pass the Functional Skills exam at level 2.
This qualification also has an End Point Assessment which includes:
Situational judgement test. This is answered through a multiple choice exercise.
Professional Discussion. All knowledge and behaviours will be assessed using a wide range of evidence sources including the self-assessment and testimonies from people who use services.
Entry requirements
At this level the learner will need to be in an appropriate job role and work placement that supports this programme level. This will need to be secured. The apprentices are to have a clear DBS (Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service) prior to starting.
Ideally, you will possess a GCSE grade 4 (C) in Maths and English or Functional Skills Level 2.
