Course Summary
Our VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing is a nationally recognised qualification designed to give you the essential skills and professional knowledge needed to begin your career as a hairdresser. This programme provides the perfect balance of theory and hands-on salon experience, ensuring you are fully prepared for the demands of working in the industry.
By the end of the course, you will be confident in carrying out a wide range of hairdressing services, understand how to work safely and professionally, and have the foundations to either enter employment or progress to Level 3.
Course Details
The course covers all the core skills required by a professional stylist, including:
Shampooing, conditioning and scalp treatments
Cutting women�s hair to create a variety of looks
Styling and finishing techniques (blow-drying, setting, pinning, dressing hair)
Colouring services (temporary, semi, permanent, highlighting techniques)
Perming and chemical services
Health, safety and hygiene in the salon
Client consultation and customer service
Professional image and teamwork
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is continuous and includes:
Practical observations of services carried out on real clients
Written assignments and knowledge questions
Portfolio building (paper or digital)
A final assessment, bringing together the skills and knowledge you have developed
All assessments are marked by your tutor and quality-assured by VTCT.
Entry requirements
Students to have complete the Level 1 or Level 2 Hair & Beauty Qualification. No formal academic qualifications required, but a genuine interest in hairdressing is essential.
You should have basic English and communication skills.
An informal interview or initial assessment may be required.
Equipment required
At Level 2, we ask that students supply their own scissors, both cutting and thinning, a minimum of 3 head blocks to support the practical training for cutting units.
