The IMI Level 2 Subsidiary Diploma in Automotive Maintenance and Repair is a vocational qualification that provides the essential?knowledge and practical skills?required for a service technician role in the motor vehicle repair industry.? Workplace and essential skills Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping:?Understanding and applying safety practices, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Tools and Measuring Devices:?Knowledge and skills in using materials, fabrication techniques, and various tools and measuring devices relevant to the automotive environment. Supporting Job Roles:?Understanding and demonstrating the skills needed to support various job roles within an automotive business, including effective communication and customer service principles. Automotive systems and components System Components:?In-depth knowledge of various vehicle systems and components, including: Engine mechanical, lubrication, and cooling systems. Fuel, ignition, air, and exhaust systems. Electrical systems. Chassis systems (braking, steering, suspension, wheels, and tyres). Transmission and driveline systems. Identifying and agreeing on motor vehicle customer service needs. Inspecting light vehicles using prescribed methods. Overhauling specific units (e.g., engine mechanical units, transmission units, steering, and suspension units).? Practical experience Hands-on work:?Gaining practical experience through maintenance and repair tasks in well-equipped workshops. Projects: Developing projects to enhance development. Work experience:?The opportunity to undertake a work experience.? Employability skills (e.g., teamwork, communication, digital skills) and enhancing English and maths skills in Automotive Maintenance and Repair sector.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Practical assessments in a workshop environment observed by an assessor.Online tests covering the knowledge components.Written knowledge assessments and assignments.

Entry requirements

Willing to work towards English and Maths in either functional skills or GCSE.
