The?Gateway Level 1 qualification in Hospitality and Catering?builds on introductory knowledge, providing more detailed, sector-specific skills and understanding to prepare learners for employment or advanced study in the industry. Workplace and essential skills Health and Safety:?Learning about safe practices in a kitchen environment, and to follow basic food hygiene. Tools and Equipment:?Identifying and understanding how to use common tools and equipment. Communication:?Developing communication skills relevant to the Hospitality and Catering industry. Hospitality and Catering components Units at this level move beyond basics, covering more detailed and practical aspects of the industry. Culinary Skills: Food preparation and presentation, using kitchen equipment, and menu planning. Food Safety and Hygiene: A Level 2 Food Safety certificate is a standard requirement for food handlers and covers essential hygiene regulations, hazard control, and safe food handling practices. Hospitality Operations: Customer service, food and beverage service, housekeeping, front office reception, and kitchen management. Specialisation: Units can include meeting special dietary needs, event planning, and handling money/payments.? Practical experience Hands-on work:?Gaining practical tasks in well-equipped kitchens. Work experience:?The opportunity to undertake a work experience.? Employability skills (e.g., teamwork, communication, digital skills) and enhancing English and maths skills in Hospitality and Catering sector.

Practical assessments in a workshop environment observed by an assessor.Online tests covering the knowledge components.Written knowledge assessments and assignments.

Willing to work towards English and Maths in either functional skills or GCSE.
