This qualification develops the essential English skills you need for further study, employment and everyday life. Recognised by employers, colleges and apprenticeship providers as an alternative to GCSE, it focuses on practical communication skills that can be applied with confidence.
Course Details
You will build skills in three main areas:
Reading � understanding and comparing texts, identifying key points, and using evidence to support responses
Writing � producing clear, structured texts for different purposes and audiences, with correct spelling, punctuation and grammar
Speaking, Listening and Communicating � taking part in discussions, giving short presentations, listening carefully and responding effectively
The course is designed to help you communicate effectively in real-life and workplace situations.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Reading: externally assessed written exam
Writing: externally assessed written exam
Speaking, Listening and Communicating: internally assessed practical activity with your tutor
Entry requirements
No previous qualifications required
An initial assessment will identify the correct starting point (Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2)
Willingness to develop your confidence and skills in English
Equipment required
Pen, paper, folder for notes
Scientific calculator (strongly recommended)
Access to a computer for practice activities and online resources
