Course Summary
This qualification is for those who want to work with children and young people in a school or college environment. It provides the knowledge and skills needed to support learning and development as a teaching assistant, learning support assistant, or in a similar role. The course covers both the theory and the practical aspects of supporting teaching and learning.
Course Details
You will study a range of units, which may include:
Understanding child and young person development
Safeguarding children and young people
Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
Supporting learning activities in the classroom
Promoting children and young people�s positive behaviour
Supporting assessment for learning
Health and safety in a learning environment
Developing professional skills and reflective practice
This qualification includes mandatory knowledge units alongside practical skills that are applied in real workplace settings.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Coursework, written assignments and projects
Portfolio of evidence, including observations in the workplace
Continuous assessment � no final exam
Entry requirements
Usually requires a Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4/C or above are recommended (or equivalent).
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required and will be arranged with us.
Commitment to both classroom study and work placement hours.

Basic stationery (pens, paper, folder)
Access to a computer for research and assignment writing
Placement logbook (provided by the centre)

Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges.
Foundation degrees or higher education in education, childhood studies or teaching.
Specialist roles within schools such as SEN support or pastoral work.
