Course Summary
Do you dream of making musical theatre your professional career?�
Can you see yourself performing on the West End, singing and dancing on cruise ships or starring in your own show? If you love to dance, sing and act then this course will have you stepping into the spotlight in no time.
Course Details
During the two year course, equivalent to three A Levels, you will participate in technique classes and will learn how to work and perform in a professional environment and take part in a large number of performances, gaining the experience and skills needed to work in the industry as a triple threat performer.
You�ll study a variety of units across dancing, singing and acting including exploring various performance styles, creating your own musical, performing musical theatre to an audience, producing a personal project, working collaboratively and planning your own career in the performing arts industry.
Alongside your comprehensive timetable, you will take skills-based classes in all three disciplines of dance, singing and acting. This will include classes in various styles of jazz, tap, ballet, solo and ensemble singing, physical theatre and the study of practitioners in all three disciplines.
The course is based around practical and academic activities and you will participate in various live performances which include a flash mob, tea dance, pantomime, variety show, Christmas carol service, professional casting day and an end of year full scale musical production.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course is entirely coursework based. It is taught as separate units of study that explore different areas of performing arts. You will be assessed continually throughout the year as you complete each task within a unit of study.
Entry requirements
Usually you�ll need four or more high grades at GCSE in subjects that are relevant to the course you�d like to study (including Maths and/or English). Alternatively, you�ll need a Level 2 Diploma with overall Merit in a relevant subject and Maths and English at appropriate levels. You will be invited to interview/audition where you will have the opportunity to meet the department and be shown the outstanding facilities at the Performing Arts Centre.
Your next steps...
There may be opportunities for some students to enter the profession on completion of this course, continue their studies at NSCG on a relevant HE course or progress to university to undertake a degree.
