Course Summary
Do you have a love of the arts but prefer to be behind the scenes? If you�ve ever fancied a career in the performance industry but want to stay out of the limelight, this course is perfect for you.
Course Details
During your time on this two year programme, you will have the opportunity to explore technical theatre through a range of specialist areas including Theatre Production from The Historical Context of Performance, Production Planning and Production Performance, Front of House management and Operations, Events Management to the more technical side such as Stage Management, Stage Technical Maintenance, Stage Lighting Design and Operation, Stage Sound Design and Live Sound for the Stage.
You will develop practical skills and gain a wider understanding of the Performing Arts industry as well as having the opportunity to work alongside our Performing Arts students on many productions with elements such as lighting and sound being key disciplines explored throughout the qualification.
There is high demand for technical theatre careers so your study programme will incorporate a range of work related experience activities to ensure you have the breadth of skills required to prepare you for a move towards university, an apprenticeship or industry employment.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course contains a number of mandatory and specialist units, some of which are assessed externally. You will be assessed continually throughout the year as you complete each task within a unit of study. Tasks vary and include practical work, written reports and presentations.
Entry requirements
You will need a minimum of four or more high grades at GCSE in subjects relevant to the course you�d like to study, including maths and/or English Language at grade 4 or above. Alternatively, you�ll need a Level 2 Diploma with overall Merit in a relevant subject and maths and English at appropriate levels.�
You will be invited to interview/audition where you will have the opportunity to meet the department and be shown the outstanding facilities at the Performing Arts Centre. You will not need previous experience in production or performing arts but have a desire to learn all about technical production and stage management or arts in the community and the business of performing arts.
Maths and English
Alongside your course you will study Maths and/or English to improve your skills in these vital subjects by attending structured weekly sessions as part of your timetable. Maths and English development is also integrated in practical assignments.

Theatre Production (Technical) gives you the opportunity to work all around the world from TV to travelling theatres, West End/Broadway theatres to local community theatres.
