Stoke on Trent College has some of the most comprehensive and up to date facilities in the country. Learning takes place in a friendly and relaxed environment and all staff have an excellent knowledge of the industry gained through many years of experience. It will be necessary for students to undertake some research on an individual basis to help support the learning of the underpinning knowledge aspect of the course.
Course Details
This course is the starting point for people who hope to have a career in bricklaying, and consists of both practical and theory elements. Employers will expect good attendance, good behaviour, good communication skills enabling you to interact with clients, work safely, and use initiative as well as having bricklaying skills. Achievement of the qualification will be on completion of all the units, passing externally set Health and Safety test, and externally set core and subject knowledge tests. Students will also complete Functional Skills as part of this course, which may not be directly linked to the trade but will improve wider education, and also take part in enrichment activities. The students must also successfully complete key skills tests. Your lecturer or guidance team are there to help you get the most from your course; if you want to study on your own you can use one of the Learning Resource Centres.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Students are frequently assessed both in the practical environment and in the classroom. There are seven theoretical unit end tests, various practical models and a final practical assessment. The final theoretical test is an online test on the knowledge gained throughout the course.
