Course Summary
Build your future in construction with our Level 1 Diploma in Brickwork. Gain hands-on experience in bricklaying techniques, understanding of construction materials, and health and safety practices. Through practical workshops and theoretical lessons, you will develop the�essential skills needed�in the construction industry. Join us to lay the foundation for a successful career in brickwork.
Course Details
This course will provide you with a good introduction into the Construction Industry and Bricklaying. and you will also learn about general construction skills.
At Level 1, the course content is approximately 25% theory and 75% practical.
You will spend a large amount of time developing your practical skills by completing a range of projects in our workshops. You will also have classroom-based sessions and computer-based learning resources that you will use to develop your understanding of the tools, materials and technologies used in your trade.
The work covered includes: health and safety, access equipment, mixing mortar and concrete, setting out basic buildings, brickwork and block work. We will also cover the skills required to work in the industry including your responsibilities at work, communications skills and personal effectiveness skills to better enable you to progress to further training or employment.
The study programme will also incorporate a range of work related experience activities to ensure that you have the breadth of skills required to progress to further/higher education, employment or an apprenticeship.
As part of your study programme here at the College, you will complete a maths and/or English qualification alongside your chosen course if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed by the use of practical assessments and assignments that will form part of a portfolio of your work. You will also complete practical tests and multiple choice theory tests online at the end of your training course.
Entry requirements
As a condition of being offered a place on this course, you would be expected to meet the following entry requirements:�1. Submit a school report showing your attendance, behaviour and effort details2. Attend the Department Experience Day in June 20263. Complete a summer assignment which would be set on Experience Day in June 20264. You will need to achieve/have achieved GCSEs at grade 3 or above in Maths and a grade 2 or above in English Language
Your next steps...
Having completed the course, you will be well prepared to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying. If you prefer to move into employment, you may be able to become an apprentice with a local company where you would work on site for four days per week but continue your learning at College one day a week.
