Course Summary

The course will be taught from our salons where you will have access to clients. A variety of teaching methods will be used throughout training, including practical demonstrations, classroom teaching, Canvas app - Online access to units including quizzes and Theory content. Workshops, role play, discussions and theory work packs. Some independent study is required for which guidance is given. Practical skills and assessments are carried out on commercial clients within the new purpose built industry standard barber facilities.

Course Details

The course focuses on the skills required to become a barber,. The course is a full time course and will give the opportunity to be part of the college community and access a wide range of extra enrichment activities. The course also will support you in maths and English qualifications, and a one day a week placement in a barber's is a mandatory part of the course. You will be taught all the practical skills you need to be a junior stylist in a Barber shop. You will also be taught the theory that underpins the practical skills, so that you will not only know how to Style, cut and colour the hair but you will understand what is happening inside the hair so that you can ensure all your clients have healthy hair. You will train and complete all assessments in the commercial salons on paying clients in our realistic working environment. How will it be delivered and assessed?

The assessment process involves the collection of paper based portfolio evidence which may take the form of practical observations, questioning, online tests to assess theory knowledge, projects, assignments and case studies. You will be working with members of the public and you will need to provide a number of paying clients for practical assessment purposes, you will participate in work experience.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade 3. BTEC Introductory Certificate or Diploma, appropriate NVQ Level 1, or another relevant Level 1 or Foundation qualification. You will have a pre induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.

Upon completion of VRQ Level 2 you may progress onto VRQ Level 3, an Advanced Apprenticeship or employment.
