Course Summary
Taught sessions will be a combination of theory classes, discussions, workshops and practical activities and independent study to meet the learning styles of all learners. Practical assessments will be carried out in a placement to assess your work based competency.
Course Details
This is a full time, 2 year course, perfect if you want to work in health and social care. The course will support you in progression to University to courses such as Nursing, Paramedic Science, Midwifery and Social Work, or directly into work within the health and social care sector. Social care is about helping people with individual needs such as those who have a disability, the elderly or people with learning difficulties. Carers can work in a home or in a care home or in the local community. Your programme of study includes compulsory work experience to give you the employability skills needed to work in the health and social care field. Study includes, development through life stages, equality, diversity and safeguarding. You will learn the anatomy and physiology behind health and social care and how to care for young people and the elderly. English and Maths will also form an important part of your course, as these are skills we use in all aspects of our study, work and everyday life.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Progress is assessed during the course through unit based assignments, case studies and placement reports. You will also be encouraged to evaluate your progress through your Individual Learning Plan and developments. A pass, merit or distinction will be awarded for each unit where tutors will be supporting you to aim high and reach your full potential.
Entry requirements
5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including English
and ideally Maths or an appropriate NVQ Level 2 or Intermediate

make sure this is the right level for you.
All learners will need a clear DBS prior to
the start of the course and be required to
purchase a uniform.
Equipment required
A practical, work-related course is equivalent to two/three A-Levels and prepares candidates for careers including nursing, social work, residential care management, and the Health service.
