Course Summary

The Preparation for Work course equips learners with essential skills and knowledge to enter the workforce. It focuses on building confidence, understanding employer expectations, developing communication and teamwork abilities, and exploring career options�laying a strong foundation for successful progression into employment, apprenticeships, or further training.

Course Details

The Preparation for Work pathway is aimed at 16�18-year-olds (up to 24 with an EHCP) working between Entry Levels 1�2, focusing on developing independent living and learning skills alongside English, maths, and digital skills. It provides a structured, supportive environment to build confidence, resilience, and personal skills, aligned with the SEND Preparing for Adulthood outcomes and individual EHC plans. The course prepares students for adult life, promoting independence through practical learning in communication, teamwork, travel training, managing money, and home skills such as cooking and cleaning. It also fosters personal growth, problem-solving, self-awareness, and emergency preparedness including first aid. How will it be delivered and assessed?

Initial assessment takes place over several weeks, tailored to each learner�s needs, identifying strengths and areas for development through various methods to set starting points. Students complete a portfolio assessed through speaking, listening, reading, writing, project-based learning, video, and photographic evidence, with opportunities to achieve nationally accredited qualifications or meet individual targets.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. All students are considered on an individual basis and matched to a course that best meets their needs and supports their outcomes, helping them progress toward their aspirations.
