A variety of teaching methods will be used through your training, including practical skills demonstrations, classroom teaching, workshops, role play, discussion and work packs. Some independent study is required for which guidance is given. Practical skills and assessments are carried out on commercial clients within the new purpose built industry standard salon facilities.

This course is for you if you want to work as a Salon Assistant or commence a career in hairdressing. All Hair, Beauty & Holistic Therapy courses offer a great education through practical skills and theoretical knowledge. All the tutors are highly qualified and experienced, working to teach the latest styles and techniques. This course offers an ideal starting point for your career and will include maths, English and experience of work. You will train and complete all assessments in the commercial salons and have opportunity to attend a wide range of enrichment activities. Optional units may change to meet employer requirements. The assessment process involves the collection of paper based portfolio evidence which will take the form of practical observations, questioning, assignments. You will be meeting and working with members of the public and will need to provide a number of paying clients for practical assessment purposes, you will participate in experience of work.

Grade 1 or 2 in English and Maths. You will have a pre induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.

This is a vocational course giving you the training and skills needed for employment, good punctuality and attendance is essential. To comply with industry and awarding body standards for commercial salons, you will be required to purchase a salon uniform and equipment which is available by mail order, an order form will be provided. The recommended salon uniform needs to be worn at all times during practical and commercial salon sessions. A professional appearance is necessary with a good standard of personal hygiene and you will need to be willing to receive and carry out the treatments for which you are training. Some courses have trips or visits which may have a cost attached. You will also have the opportunity to be entered in national skills competitions representing the College in which there have been many successful outcomes for the College.

On successful completion of Level 1 you will be qualified to progress onto Level 2 hairdressing, Level 2 make up artistry or level 2 beauty.
