Course Details

The course consists of 7 units. You�will gain practical skills in hand-fitting, welding, turning and milling and an excellent knowledge of theory to support these practical skills. �Alongside your course, you will study English if not already achieved at grade 4. You will also need to complete 3 days mandatory work experience.�As part of the course, you will visit engineering companies to find out more about real-life Engineering in a range of settings.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will complete a range of practical projects and will be assessed and monitored throughout the year on these. You will also compile a portfolio of all of this work to show what you have learned. You will complete tests and assignments in English as required.

Entry requirements

As a condition of being offered a place on this course, you would be expected to meet the following entry requirements:Submit a school report showing your attendance, behaviour and effort detailsYou will need to achieve/have achieved GCSEs at grade 4 or above in Maths and a grade 3 or above in English Language.

Your next steps...

After completing the course you will be well prepared to progress into employment with a local company as an engineering apprentice (you will need a placement within an Engineering company to become an apprentice). You will spend most of the working week developing your skills at your place of work and the rest of the week at College, furthering your technical knowledge and practical skills. You could also progress onto other full time Engineering courses to suit your strengths and needs.
