Course Summary

This course offers learners a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge and skills required for direct engagement with children and young people in school and college settings. Covering essential aspects such as promoting positive behaviour, providing pupil support, utilising information and communication technology, and fostering children's social development.

Course Details

The course consists of several mandatory units as well as specialist units.Example units covered include:communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adultsunderstand child and young person developmentengage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settingsunderstand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young peoplesupport children and young people's health and safetysupport learning activitiespromotion of positive behaviournational curriculum, plan, deliver & assess

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course is assessed through a range of assessment methods; these include direct observation of performance in the workplace, professional discussions, assignments, presentations, written/oral questioning. All evidence is collated and presented in an e-portfolio.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a Level 2 qualification or equivalent in Supporting Teaching & Learning and a preferable Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy. A good working knowledge of ICT is also required. In addition applicants must have had significant experience as a teaching assistant in a school setting and have a minimum 10 hours per week guaranteed before the course starts.
