Course Summary

A Level Art & Design is a creative and inspiring course that allows you to explore a wide range of artistic techniques and materials including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, and digital media. Through exciting projects based on themes like portraits, landscapes, and still life, you'll develop your own personal style while learning how to communicate ideas visually. You'll gain practical skills in using art materials, learn how to research and analyse the work of other artists, and build the confidence to experiment and express yourself.

The course also helps you understand art in cultural and historical contexts and teaches you how to reflect critically on your own work. With access to specialist studios, expert guidance from supportive teachers, and opportunities for gallery visits, workshops, and exhibitions, you'll be part of a vibrant creative community. Whether you're aiming for art school, a career in the creative industries, or simply want to develop as an artist, A Level Art & Design provides the foundation, skills, and independence to make your artistic vision a reality.

Course Details

Year 1

Students build essential skills in visual communication and composition through a variety of structured projects, practical workshops, lectures, and guided assignments. Experimentation with media and techniques is encouraged, helping students understand how artists generate, develop, and realise ideas.

Year 2

Students continue to participate in workshops and demonstrations while developing a self-directed creative project based on a personally chosen topic. This enables the application of both practical and contextual knowledge in a more focused and meaningful way. Students further enhance their ability to research, analyse, and reflect critically on art within a broader context.
