Course Details

You will develop more advanced practical skills in joinery and learn about basic issues relating to construction including working safely, communication skills and building methods and construction technology to enable you to progress to further training or employment. You will spend a large amount of your time developing your practical skills by completing a range of practical projects in our workshops. You will also have classroom based sessions and computer-based learning resources that you will use to develop your understanding of the tools, materials and technologies used in your trade. You will be expected to complete work outside your main classes. As part of your study programme here at the College, you will complete a maths and/or English qualification alongside your chosen course if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above. The study programme will also incorporate a range of work related experience activities to ensure that you have the breadth of skills required to progress to further/higher education, employment or an apprenticeship.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed by the use of practical assessments and assignments that will form a portfolio of your work. You will also complete practical and theory tests at the end of your training course.

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at grade 3 or above (including maths and English) and will need to have achieved the Level 1 Diploma in Construction - Carpentry.

Your next steps...

Having completed the course, you will be well prepared to progress to a Level 3 course in Construction.
