This course will provide you with basic understanding of electrical installation practical skills and theory that will prepare you to move towards employment as an electrician. You will learn about: how to work effectively and safely with electrical installations; the theory and principles of electricity and electrical installations; how to apply health and safety in the workplace; and how to connect and install electrical systems. This includes different types of circuits, different components and safety equipment. By the end of the course, you will be able to work confidently and safely in installing electrical systems and be able to produce high quality work.

You will complete a range of practical projects and will be assessed and monitored throughout the year on these. You will also have to complete multiple choice tests for each unit you study and complete practical and written assessments.

As a condition of being offered a place on this course, you would be expected to meet the following entry requirements:Submit a school report showing your attendance, behaviour and effort detailsAttend the Department Experience Day in June 2026Complete a summer assignment which would be set on Experience Day in June 2026You will need to achieve/have achieved GCSEs at grade 4 or above in Maths and a grade 3 or above in English Language

After completing the course you will be able to progress to the full time Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation to continue to develop your skills and knowledge in electrical installation. You will also be well prepared to progress into employment with an electrical installation company as an apprentice.
