Course Summary

Stoke SFC have some of the best results in the region for A Level Maths. Our teachers place student progress at the heart of their aims and offer support and guidance inside and outside lessons.

You can expect to study lots more algebra and coordinate geometry, develop skills in trigonometry and learn about calculus (integration and differentiation).

We also look at Mechanics topics using Newton’s Laws and Statistics topics including probability, hypothesis testing and data analysis. We suggest a grade 7 at GCSE to be able a good transition to the A Level course – there is lots of practice and written methods required in the course and you end up with a qualification both envied and desired by many.

Entry requirements

A Level maths is often seen as a facilitator or a necessary A Level for many further qualifications. It should not be taken lightly though. You need to enjoy mathematics and be prepared to show detailed workings using formal notation. Practice makes perfect – a tenacity and resilience to work through problems is essential – as well as the understanding that the subject can be quite intensive in terms of time and the pace of the course. A strength in logical, ordered thought processes is really helpful.

Your next steps...

An A Level in Maths opens doors to a wide range of opportunities. It’s a strong foundation for degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Accountancy, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Architecture, Data Analysis, and Teaching.

Many of our students progress to top universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Birmingham, and even the USA, while others secure prestigious degree apprenticeships with companies such as Rolls Royce and PwC. One recent student has even joined the UK’s first Maths Teacher Degree Apprenticeship starting in 2025.

Alongside the course, many of our students enrich their learning through the MEC programme, MDV programme, and the HE+ partnership with Cambridge University, as well as through the Duke of Edinburgh Award, where STEM students play a leading role.
