Course Summary

Given that a person tests positive for Covid, what is the probability that they have the virus? Do recent record temperatures prove that global warming is occurring? Was the Brexit vote result statistically significant?

Studying Statistics at A Level will allow you to develop your skills in answering such questions and dealing with collecting, presenting, analysing and interpreting data in a range of different areas. Statistics combines well with a broad range of subjects, including Biology, Geography, Geology, Psychology, Accounting and Business amongst others. Entry requirements

If you have a curious, questioning mind and like challenging information rather than taking it at face value, Statistics could be the subject for you. You’ll explore whether data really supports a claim, whether it’s been interpreted correctly, or whether it’s being used to mislead. A solid grasp of probability from GCSE Maths is essential, as you’ll build on this knowledge to analyse data in depth.

Your next steps...

A Level Statistics opens up a wide range of progression routes. Many students go on to study subjects such as:

  • Psychology, Biology, and Geography
  • Economics, Accounting, Finance, and Business
  • Other sciences or social sciences where data analysis plays a key role

Some students progress directly into apprenticeships or employment in fields that value analytical and numerical skills. While a career in Statistics itself is possible, the real strength of this qualification is how versatile it is, supporting future success in many different areas.
