Course Summary

AQA A-level Chemistry explores the principles that underpin the physical world, including atomic structure, bonding, chemical reactions, and the behaviour of matter. It is an ideal course for students interested in how substances interact and change, and for those considering careers in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, environmental science, or engineering.

Course Details

There are three topics, Unit 1: Physical Chemistry, Unit 2: Inorganic Chemistry and Unit 3: Organic Chemistry. These are all taught over two years.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment is entirely exam-based, with three written papers at the end of Year 13: Paper 1: Physical and Inorganic Chemistry, Paper 2: Physical and Organic Chemistry, Paper 3: Synoptic content and practical skills. Competency in practical skills is assessed over the two years and reported as Pass / Fail.

Combined Science Grades 6-6, or Chemistry Grade 6

Normal classroom equipment including a scientific calculator
