AQA A Level Drama and Theatre Studies

An ideal course for those with a passion and interest in Drama, Theatre and Performance. Both a practical and academically demanding course. Throughout the course of study, students will create, rehearse and perform in both a scripted and devised performance, taking creative responsibility for co-ordinating the full lighting, set and costume required for their performances. During this process students may opt to be assessed as a performer or director, costue designer, lighting designer or set designer. Students will also study a wide range of theatrical styles and texts from different historic periods, exploring each text through a mix of practical workshops and theory lessons. The final element of the course focuses on students watching live theatre performances and evaluating each production they see. This enjoyable part of the course allows students to see many different productions across the country, exposing them to a varied range of plays and theatrical styles.

This course is assessed both practically and through an external examination at the end of the course as follows: Component 1: Drama and Theatre (3 Hour Written Exam) 40% of course. Component 2: Creating original Drama (Practical) 30% of course. Component 3: Making Theatre (Practical) 30% of Course.

 Stationary for writing and comfortable clothes for practical work.

No prior Drama experience needed but minimum of a grade 4 in English due to the highly academic written element of the course.
