Course Summary

AQA A Level History at Trinity Sixth Form explores modern British and American history. It encourages students to think critically about the past and understand how historical events shape current and future developments.

Course Details

1. The Making of Modern Britain (1951–2007) – Depth study - Topics include: post-war settlement, social change in the 1960s, Cold War, Thatcherism, Falklands War, Labour and Conservative leadership changes. 2. The Making of a Superpower: USA (1865–1975) – Breadth study - Topics include: post-Civil War USA, rise of big business, racism and social divisions, WW1, Prohibition, the Great Depression, WW2, Cold War, Vietnam, JFK, Watergate. 3. Coursework Essay (Y13) – Focused on economic, social, and political reforms in Russia (1805 -1917) with students selecting their own themes.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Regular in-house assessments – These will consist of 25- and 30-mark questions. - Formal mock exams (These will take place at several points during Y12 and 13) - Coursework essay (20% of final grade) - Presentations, debates, and peer assessments to demonstrate knowledge and skills

Entry requirements

Level 5 and above required. - GCSE History is not required – students without it have previously succeeded

Equipment required

General school supplies (e.g., notebooks, folders, pens)- Access to digital resources for research and coursework preparation- Recommended: A device for typing coursework and accessing online materials
