Course Details

Pure Mathematics This extends the Algebra and Trigonometry elements from GCSE to a higher level of understanding that enables problems to be solved especially in Mechanics and Statistics. Mechanics This enables you to describe mathematically the motion of object and how they respond to forces acting upon them. Many of the ideas that you will meet form an essential introduction to engineering and physics. Statistics This enables you to analyse and summarise numerical data in order to arrive at meaningful conclusions. You will extend the range of probability concepts from GSCE.

Many of the topics have wider applications in Biology and Geography for the recording of experiments.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed at the end of a two year course. The examinations will comprise of 3 equally weighted papers. Papers 1 and 2 will test your knowledge of Pure Mathematics, whilst the final paper will test your knowledge of Mechanics and Statistics. Each paper will be two hours long.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade6 though preferably 7, 8 or 9 in Mathematics
