Course Details

A range of options are covered with additional units taken for the triple award.

  • Work Experience: Students may get the chance to work in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, residential homes, and day-care centres 
  • Communication: Students learn to develop effective communication skills 
  • Professional development: Students learn about professional development and how to enhance their hard and soft skills 
  • Diversity and equality: Students learn about diversity, equality, and rights for all people in society.
  • Psychology and sociology: Students learn about psychology and sociology as they relate to health and social care 
  • Anatomy and physiology: Students learn about human anatomy and physiology 
  • Public health: Students learn about the role of public health in keeping the nation healthy
  • Nutrition: Students learn about nutrition and how it relates to health and social care.
  • Duty of care: Students learn about duty of care across different areas within the health and social care professions.
  • Mental capacity: Students learn about mental capacity and the impact on treatment
  • Some courses may also include safeguarding, life-stage development, and health education.

Currently the course is a mixture of examined units (maximum of 4 depending on weighting) and coursework

Entry requirements

5 grade 5 at GCSE including maths and English

Equipment required

Standard school equipment. A device for researching purposes would be useful.
